It’s May — which means June is a lot closer than it feels, and if you haven’t locked in summer plans yet, this is your friendly wake-up call. Spots fill fast around here. Like, “gone before Memorial Day” fast. So if you’re reading this with a little panic in your chest, let’s get you sorted!
Here’s your go-to guide for what Katy, Cinco Ranch, and Fulshear families have to work with this summer.
Vacation Bible School is a summer institution in this area — and for good reason. It’s typically free or very low cost, runs about a week, is incredibly well-organized, and kids genuinely love it. (And let’s be honest — parents love it too.)
Nearly every church in the Cinco Ranch and Katy / Fulshear area runs a VBS program in June or July. Most welcome kids from roughly kindergarten through 5th grade, run morning hours Monday through Friday, and wrap up with a fun parent night.
What to do:
Check your own church’s calendar first. If you’re looking for options, a quick search for “VBS Katy TX 2026” or “VBS Cinco Ranch 2026” will surface local listings quickly. Dates and registration links change year to year, so verify directly with each program — but don’t wait too long!
The Katy area has a really solid range of day camps for school-age kids. Whatever your child is into, there’s almost certainly something here for them:
Arts and enrichment camps
Several arts organizations and studios in the greater Katy area run week-long summer intensives in visual arts, theater, and music. Check local arts centers and your school district’s fine arts department for what’s on offer this summer.
Sports camps
From soccer to swimming to multi-sport formats, sports camps are well-represented here. Local gyms, recreation centers, and club organizations run summer programs, and the club behind your kid’s fall season is usually a great first call.
STEM camps
These have grown a ton in the last few years. Robotics, coding, engineering challenges — there are independent camp programs as well as some affiliated with Katy ISD and local libraries. The Katy ISD website is worth checking for district-run summer programs and community partnerships.
Pro tip:
Most programs have age cutoffs and limited enrollment. When you find something that fits, register right away. “I’ll do it next week” has a way of turning into “sorry, we’re full.”
Summers in Katy are not subtle about being hot. Here’s what’s available when the kids just need to get wet and cool off:
Typhoon Texas — If you’re in this area and haven’t been yet, fix that this summer. It’s a full-scale water park right here in Katy off I-10, with a great mix of thrill rides and milder attractions that work for younger kids too. Season passes are absolutely worth it if you’re going more than twice.
Cinco Ranch Beach Club and Community Pools — Cinco Ranch residents have access to the Beach Club, which is genuinely one of the better community amenity setups in the area — resort pool, lazy river, summer event programming. Check your community calendar for summer hours.
Splash pads and Fort Bend County parks — Fort Bend County Parks has multiple splash pad locations that are free and perfect for younger kids who aren’t quite ready for a full water park experience. Check the Fort Bend County Parks website for locations and hours — they typically open for the season in late spring.
Local city parks
Katy, Fulshear, and Missouri City all have parks with playgrounds and open green space. Not as splashy (literally), but great for burning energy on a weekday morning before the heat peaks.
I say this as a neighbor and someone who genuinely loves this community: start checking registrations now, even if June still feels far away. The camps that fill fastest are the ones kids are talking about — which means the word has already gotten out. If you wait until Memorial Day weekend to start signing up, you’re working with what’s left.
Set a reminder for this weekend. Open a tab. Make a list. Your summer-of-2026 self will thank you!

This community is special, and I love sharing it with people who are considering planting roots here.
